Year 6 Bikeability

This week ALL our Year 6's are taking part in Bikeabilty.

The children in daily small groups are taught Level 1 and Level 2 skills by 2 qualified instructors.

Level 1 teaches the children -

How to maintain your bike, keep it in good condition and how to make simple repairs.

How to glide and pedal your bike calmly with control.

How to control your bike - setting off, slowly down, braking and stopping.

How to be aware of your surroundings safely.

Level 2 allows the children to ride on a real road and teaches the children -

How to pass stationary vehicles.

How to understand signals, signs and road markings.

How to negotiate the road on quiet junctions, roundabouts and crossroads.

How to share the road with other users.

This is an invaluable skill and our children have loved taking part and gained a lot of confidence in how to ride a bike safely.

Well done Year 6!
