The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad

Year 2 really enjoyed exploring The Proudest Blue by Ibtihaj Muhammad as part of the whole school 'Writing Rocks' project.

They were fascinated by the author, Ibtihaj Muhammad's own story of being the first Muslim American woman to compete in the Olympics in hijab. 

They explored the sport she competed in and learned about how she went on to inspire lots of young Muslim women.

Through their work, the children generated their own similes and extended their understanding of vocabulary. This culminated in the children writing poems about themselves and their identiy and writing about who inspires them.
