PE in Year 4 - Autumn 1

This half term in Year 4 I have taught the basics of tag rugby (invasion game) alongside the children attending swimming every Friday.

Tag rugby is an invasion game and the children have worked hard to develop their understanding of the attacking and defending principles of invasion games. In all invasion games, the children have to think about how they use skills, strategies and tactics to outwit the opposition. In tag rugby pupils do this by maintaining possession and moving the ball towards the try line to score. The children are reminded that tag rugby is a non-contact sport and this develops their understanding of the importance of fair play and honesty while self-managing games and learning and abiding by key rules, as well as evaluating their own and others’ performances. Year 4 have worked hard on their ball handling skills, the passing and receiving of the ball and their footwork skills to dodge an opponent.

Towards the back end of this half term I was able to take the class swimming and I was very impressed with how all the children are learning a valuable life skill.
